How long does it take to recover from breast augmentation?
In general, the most uncomfortable time after breast augmentation surgery is the first few days. Usually after four or five days there is no more need for pain medication. The swelling and firmness of the breasts can take a few weeks to subside. The final size of the breasts can be determined at about six weeks. It is very common during that time for one breast to feel or look different from the other. As far as exercise goes, I tell patients to follow the “3 and 6” rule – no exercise for 3 weeks; after 3 weeks the patient can resume lower body exercise (walking, running, spinning), and after 6 weeks the patient can resume core and upper body exercise (sit-ups, push-ups, squats, lifting weights).
